After quite a sombre day learning about the atrocities that the Cambodians went through under the Khmer Rouge we had a fairly long day of travelling as we made our way from Phnom Penh down to the coast and the allure of Sihanoukville. This would be our first (and only) taste of the Cambodian coast and so it had many expectations to live up to.
When we arrived in Sihanoukville, we discovered that our hotel wasn't expecting us. They quickly got some rooms ready for the group and Emma and I were the last to be given a room. The afternoon then turned into a sight familiar to fans of Bullseye. We were told that we were being given the nicest room in the hotel. We'd have a suite with a bathroom each, a separate living area with comfy sofas and sea views and a huge bed. We were instructed to leave our bags there whilst the maids finished cleaning. We quickly made our way upstairs and had only just put our bags on the floor of the magnificent room when the manager ran upstairs to tell us we were being moved to a much smaller room at the back of the hotel which overlooked a road. The hotel manager was overly happy and apologetic, but that could not stop my resentment for teasing us with "what we could have won."
After an unintentional nap and a quick foray into town to arrange the following days diving, we headed out with the group for a barbecue on the beach. We were sat just 5m away from the sea as we enjoyed our barracuda fillet and sampled yet more local beer.

Paaty Mum Sounds just like a reality "Worst-Hotel-Nightmares"-programme!! Hopefully it was at least built and reasonably comfy! Wonder who was really in the de luxe suite!!?
Awesome McAwesome Hey, least you're in a hotel room. You can't complain until you've had a drunken Canadian mistake the hostel floor for the urinal at 3 in the morning!
