Arrived in Costa Rica yesterday and settled in with the host family. They are lovely but don´t speak any English but we seem to be managing with our limited Spanish and gregarious hand gestures.
The first thing I noticed when we arrived is that all the houses have barred walls around them and some rooves have barbed wire. The streets are narrow and the driving a little crazy. I was crapping myself to be honest.
The house is modest but comfortable. Tania and I are sharing a room with bunks. To say the shower is tepid is a little generous but you know, its all about the experience.
This morning we had a little orientation at the language school and tomorrow our classes start. Tomorrow we will also have a cooking lesson and a dancing lesson, which is neat.
We are staying in a small town called Santa Barbara in a neighbourhood called Jesus (pronounced Hey-Sous). We managed to get a bus into the small town centre today and luckily they have an internet cafe. It was pretty easy to get here, so we´ll probably come in quite often. The Spanish classes are only until midday each day and only some afternoons have extra classes.
So we have two weeks of this, and then we move to Guapiles and start in the hospital for two weeks. Its all very different. I´m pretty homesick. Experience, right.
