Well, now I'm in LA again. I took an overnight bus from San Fran to LA on Wednesday night and arrived on Thursday morning in downtown LA. Managed to get a bus out to LAX and met Tania at the airport when her flight arrived in the afternoon. We managed to get to our very unfriendly and unhelpful hostel! Still, it gave us dinner and breakfast for free, and it was really cheap, so you get what you pay for I guess!
We went on a city bus tour yesterday, which was cool in that we got to see all the main sights. LA is a horrible horrible city! It's big and dirty and yuck. I mean, it's an interesting experience to have seen it but I"d never come back here or recommend it. You should have seen the smog as we came into the city. It made me want to hold my breath all day. To think that people live and work in that oblivious... yuck! We saw downtown, which is a hovel, Hollywood, which is mainly touristy, Beverly Hills, which is a rich, upper class kind of area, Rodeo Drive, where the shops are all so exclusive people have to make appointments! And there were chandeliers hanging from the streetlights instead of lights. Actual chaneliers! Drove through Santa Monica and then spent some time at Venice Beach, which was horrible. Lots of weird dodgy shops and got acosted by weird ppl like the guy who asked if he could shower at our house tonight. THe beach was pretty enough, but apparently you can't swim in the water because it's so polluted - ppl have been known to get rashes from just a few minutes. Ew! The little canals in Venice, from which it gets its name, were about the prettiest thing I saw in LA, with houses backing on to them with boats moored up in the backyards, that was cute. And then it was back to the hostel for our free dinner and almighty sleep! Well, what sleep we could get with the crazy lady on the balcony in our room singing and espousing her theories on the world to anyone in the vicinity.
Today we're about to check out and then just try and kill the day before our flight to Costa Rica at 1.20am in the morning! We might go catch a movie or something.
So that's been my travels so far! I don't know what my net access will be like in Costa Rica, but I'll try to post again soon and get some photos up too! I miss home like crazy, but I guess this is fun in its way. I'm glad I've done this because I'm so ready to just be at home and settle now!
Costa Rica here we come!
