Happy new year from Auckland!!!
Arrived in Auckland 30. December after some fantastic days in Raglan. Just after writing the last blog entry in Thames we picked up a newspaper and saw that the weather for northland was gonna be s***ty. So we decided to go southwest and see some areas that we had not seen yet, and it was a very good decision. Arrived in Raglan in the evening, and spent a very chilly evening at the hotel having some drinks in the sunset. Raglan is a very small laidback town on the coast, and we loved it!!!!! It was not too many holiday makers, and the whole city had a good atmosphere. But what Raglan is famous for is of course the surf beaches! So the day after we signed up for 3 hours surfing lections, and it was really cool. None of us had surfed before so we were really excited! And both had no particular problems with getting on the board and we had some fun hours in the sea.
Since we liked Raglan so much we decided to stay one more night, but this time at the Solscape backpackers in Manu Bay. Instead of buildings, the whole camping consisted of old train sets, and it was very nice! The next days we drve to the Waitamo caves to see the infamous glow worms, and the whole thing was so touristy and we were very disappointed. It is very annoying when families with 2 yearolds take their children to a guide through the caves in a language the children of course do not understand. The result is that these children will be talking very much and very loud to their parents!! ANNOYING!! Hehe!
After the caves we started to drive north to Auckland since we had to hand in Hubbel the following day. Spent the night in Cambridge and arrived in Auckland around midday. Of course, the spaceship office where we would be returning our vehicle had moved and we had to get on and off the motorway and it was a little bit chaotic and frentic for a while there, but at last we arrived:)
So, we have now driven 5400 km thorugh NZ, lost a mobile, lost a watch and seen some pretty amazing places:)
Emily is off to Santiago now, and then to Buenos Aires to see Maria:) Severin has a 36 hour travel ahead of him to get back to Norway and to work!
