WE MADE IT. After about 48 hours of traveling (with 5 pit stops along the way from both directions), we have landed in Buenos Aires and have just about recovered from our sleep deprivation.
If anyone is experiencing the South American travel bug, go Avianca. We were both astonished at this columbian airline. First we got to check 2 bags a piece... FOR FREE (take notes, Delta). Secondly, we were given delicious meals during each flight, even the short 3 hour flight to Colombia. When asked carne or pasta, say both. And ask for a glass of the free wine (tinto or blanco). We made it, our bags made it, we're happy.
Side note: all the horror stories you may read about Argentina customs is a lie. We were expecting 3 hours of waiting in line, showing proof of identification, showing proof of exiting the country within 3 months, blah blah blah. We were ready, BUT we pretty much gave our passport and $140 dollars and received a kind "bienvenidos."
A taxi drove us an hour to our apartment. We heard we were living close to a park, but didn't know we were literally ACROSS THE STREET. With that being a plus, our bellman Pedro is already our best friend. He helped show Sarge how to open the microwave and boil a cup of water. :) Argentines are hilariously nice.
And about the Argentines- I feel like I'm in Charleston, SC. It seems there are 4 women to 1 man. Sarge is pleased.
After an 8 hour catch-up nap, we made our first Argentina supermercado run and decided to not be stingy- we passed up the $2 wine for the $5.
Buenos Aires is spectacular. The people are great (we've gone out to dinner and lunch and have received only the friendliest of service), the food is great (note the photo attached of my ensalada caprese today), and the city is laid back and, well, super great.
We don't have much tourist news as of now (we tried going to Eva Perons grave today but got sidetracked by a city wide Punk concert). So will note on that later. If Sarge and I come back with tattoos and piercings, it is only because we are influenced by our surroundings...
Just kidding Kathy and Kim.
