Despite the fact that Sarge broke up with me for empanadas, things are going pretty amazing.
Our plan in the midst of having no plan is to cover all the necessities of each barrio, whether it being seeing, shopping, eating, drinking, or playing (lonely planet BA book is the best tour guide you could purchase).
The newest album is a tour of what we've done so far... better to read it once with the photos and be interested than to read it twice and zone out.
Things that we've done that are worthy of a photo, but sadly we didn't take one: 1) walking around on a rainy day and finding Harry Potter in spanish (Harry Potter y La Piedra Filosofal- anyone get it?). Reading this will be my "Spanish course" since people keep asking if we are students. 2) Going out in Palermo last night til 5:30 am. (it's normal, mom). And anyone thinking about visiting BA in the future: with a little push and a shove (and maybe a few winks here and there), it IS possible to get into the clubs without paying a cover... because you are a foreigner. 3) Lounging in the parks. Palermo especially has so many parks with thousands of people reading, walking their dogs, playing with kids, ROLLERBLADING (one thing we will do, but haven't gotten around to yet) (Sarah- maybe you could bring your new pair, that you use allll the time I'm sure, if you come visit?), etc etc. No matter if it's a Saturday or Tuesday, relaxing in the Palermo parks for adults is like laying out in Marion Square in between classes for CofC students. 4) Eating empanadas. Sometimes twice a day.
Things that we've done that are not worthy at all of a photo: 1) La biblioteca nacional (national library)- after wandering around and looking like looneytoons, we found out that there are actually NO BOOKS at this library- all the books are on the computer. c'mon technology, leave books alone.
Buenos Aires is definitely a dog friendly city. A huge trend we've seen here is that pet owners let their dogs have control. Dogs don't need leashes to prance around on the sidewalks, they just lead their human in the direction they want to go. Dogs roam around the park and sniff whomever and whatever, chase away birds, and poop near whatever Americans they can find sitting on a blanket reading. But they never run into the street and they never fight. Amazing.
Observation 2: probably because I'm not from a big New York/Chicago city, but I can't stop laughing every time I see mass dog walking. Everywhere. Leaving the apartment the other morning, I had to step back and let 15 German Shephards, Chihuahuas, ets and their 1 little dog walker pass (I had to snap a photo- it's in the new album). Maybe because I also have a b**** dog (shout out to Izzy) (anti-shout out to Sugar) who hates all other members of her species, but it's amazing how 15 dogs varying in size and attitude get along. I also warned Sarge that I'm gonna make him get that job just so I can play with dogs in the park while he's on duty.
Speaking of jobs, we'll look into that later. We're having too too much fun doing nothing right now.
