Em and Mark's Adventures
So, we've jsut made our way from the fabulous, Tortuguero, named after the turtles and are now in La Fortuna, famous for the active volcano. The last time we made an entry, we were sat in San Jose, in a lovely little hostal. We started out pretty early the next day, with a busride to another town, where we caught a connecting bus to a very little town, not sure it qualifies for that, but hey. We took a boat up the river and into the jungle. Unfortunately this boat didn't take us all the way, so we had to wait around in a small cluster of houses for a boat, which would, hopefully, make a stop here! We sat on the peer for about 1 hr and 30 min. and it finally arrieved. We went further into the jungle to our final destination - Tortuguero. This is a very remote place, but still full of tourists, dont think there are many places left in Costa Rica, that are unspoiled. Anyway we went on a canoetrip on the canals and were fortunate enough to spot some caymans. Later that night, we went onto the beach in total darkness to try to find some turtles. It's was fantastic - it was pitch black, except for the lightning, no rain and the guide had a red flashlight. We found what we were looking for after about 15 min. A 150 kg. turtle digging a hole for her eggs. We staid to watch her lay them and cover them up. Absolutely amazing. Didnt think I was ever going to say that about a turtles rear end!!! We are now in La Fortuna, where we hope to see the flow of lava down the side of this active volcano. Miss you all - keep writing us messages!!!
