Em and Mark's Adventures
Hey everybody. So we've finally managed to put some information on the page. A lot has happend since our last entry, so I'll try to give you a quick rundown. We arrieved in Sao Paulo and despite all the rumors about the place being really unsafe, we didn't see much. The city is just a big mass of concrete and to us, having travelled the states, it wasn't anything special. We had a bit of problems with the language and it got us in some funny situations. One night we actually ended up in a stripclub, but we left when realizing what was going on. We left the metropolis and headed out to a small town in the middle of nowhere. The place was absolutely beautifull, we went on a boat around different, more or less deserted islands, we went trekking in the jungle, where we could slide down waterfalls. It's one of the most amazing places we've ever been. We met some nice people here, whom we met up with in Rio, which was our next destination. We've already filled you in on that bit, so I'll move on to Porto Seguro. Once again it is one of this place, without too many tourists, right on the beach and with the jungle surrounding it. We had a few days, just relaxing on the beach. Salvador was next and this place is very different to the south of Brazil. A lot of the slaves brought over from africa settled down in this area, so their culture and religion is rubbing of on the place. It's another big city, but with a different wibe. We went up to a turtle farm, which was alright. One evening we went to a session of candomble - an african religion. This was seriously strange, with people going into spasmes (not sure about the spelling) and smoking loads of ####. Unfortunately the busses were on strike when we were in the city, so it kind of limited our options. We wanted to go to Lencois, but because of the busses, we had to reroute. We flew back down to Sao Paulo and caught a bus to Foz de Iguazu. This place is out of this world. It's a massive series of waterfalls set in the jungle. On our way to Buenos Aires, we spent a night in Encarnacion, a bordertown in Paraguay. This place is a hub for blackmarket dealers and was something worth seeing. We had a really nice bustrip, riding full cama, which means your seat reclines fully and they serve you dinner and breakfast. Buenos Aires is a great city. So many different areas and so much going on all the time. Also our hostal is really good. That was a very quick rundown of our time in South America so far. We can't wait to bring you the pictures!! Miss you all......
