We´ve been completely confused for a few days, after realising that it is actually quite a long way from New Zealand and only 4 hours different from UK time. Might explain waking up in the middle of the night for the past week....
After arriving in Buenos Aires, we went to San Telmo. This district is famous for Tango in the streets and the antique markets. Luckily we arrived on a Sunday, when the market was on, so it was great to have a look round. Saw a bit of Tango going on, but avoided it in order to ensure that we were not invited to participate!!
The next day, we started the first of 12 walks that we mapped out, which involved the main plaza´s and the "Casa Rosada" - Presidential Palace. On that day, there was also a War Veterans rally going on, so had to make some slight detours. The buildings are quite similar to those in Barcelona and Paris.
That night we found a Parilla (Grill house) which seem to be all over the place, so Graeme had his first steak here.
The following day, we made it round Retiro (very trendy) and the Docks (nothing dodgy to report) which have recently been renovated. We stopped in "Hooters" for a quick beer, before heading back to San Telmo.
On our third day, we went over to Palermo and walked around the Botanic Gardens, Japanese Gardens where we fed the Koi Carp and then round to the Evita museum, which was brilliant.
Yesterday, we were meant to take the coastal train, but were tainted with hangovers after a wine and cheese tasting session.... Our back up plan was to walk to La Boca, however, we were advised our planned route wasn´t really safe for toursists, so we took a taxi over and watched a street Tango and got some great photos of the colourful houses. We wonder how many of our other routes were really the best!!
Today we join our group for the trek through to Rio, so updates may be few and far between.
Hope the weather is warming up in the UK!
