I have just arrived in Lima today after another night bus! I have to say I'm not a huge fan of them and you don't get a lot of sleep. Anyway, a power nap later I'm all good!!!
Since my last blog entry we have been to Mancora which was absolutely amazing! It was so gorgeous and hot and manaed to get myself nicely sunburnt. Thankfull yit's all gone down now though! We stayed there for 2 nights and bsically spent 2 and a half days lazing around on the beach, swimming, walking in the sand and drinking cocktails! I even tried lobster for the first time and we hit the bars on the first night and tried the local drink here called Pisco Sour. We also did some star gazing and saw loads of shooting stars which was amazing. Stranely you never see the moon here so I've developed a theory about why not. It's hugely complicated though and requires diagrams so I won't bother trying to explain it here!!!
We sadly left Mancora on Wednesday night on the night bus to go to Trujillo. From there we immediately went to the neighbouring town of Huanchaco which to be perfectly honest was a bit of a "hole". There wasn't much to do so after getting some breakfast I decided to try surfing with Jenny, James and Cameron and we managed to bargain and get a 2 hour lesson for 30 Soles which is about 5 pounds! Managed to catch a few waves and stand on the board a few times so I'm happy!!! In the afternoon some of us went to Trujillo to have a look around and the others stayed in bed (everyone's gradually getting ill and passing it around). Not much in Trujillo either...some colorful buildings. We went for a drink then got a cab back. The taxis here are pretty much falling apart and everybody seems to do whatever they like on the roads!! Yesterday those of us feeling well enough took a guided tour round the Chan Chan ruins. I think I can honestly say that it was the worst tour I've ever been on. The ruins weren't actual authentic ruins but reconstructions of what thewy would've been like. Plus the tour guide made more sense to everyone when she was speaking in Spanish than in English...so nobody really knew what was going on! We got a few laughs out of it though at least! The whole Huanchaco experience was made better by the fact that our last meal there was good. We ate at a restaurant called My Friend and had chocolate fondue for desert and had happy hour cocktails before getting the nightbus to Lima.
Our guide is originally from Lima so knows the place well and is taking us to the downtown area later. Then tonight we're going to hit the bars and check out the local nightlife and hopefully cut some shapes on the dancefloor. We're here for 3 nights which is the longeast we've stayed in one place yet I think apart from Quito right at the beginning. I like the look of Lima so far even though I haven't seen much of it. I'm also definitely preferring Peru to Ecuador so far!
Hope everyone at home's well and I miss you all so much! Lots of love xxxxx
