Hi everyone!
Sorry I´ve been a bit lazy with the blog! We´ve done so much since the last one I don´t even know where to begin! We´ve been to Nazca and done flights over the Nazca lines which was amazing! Sadly it takes far too long to upload all my photos here so I´m just putting a select few up! Most notably we also completed the Inca Trail. It was an absolutely incredible experience. The porters were amazing and cooked us three course meals for lunch and dinner and woke us up in the morning with cups of coca tea or coffee. They carried about 25kg of stuff around including gas canisters. Couldn´t believe it…there we were struggling with our small day packs and they were lugging all that around! We changed our plan slightly and got to Machu Picchu on the third day instead of doing it in 4. I´m so glad we did it because we got to catch our first glimpse of Machu Picchu from the Sun Gate in fantastic sunshine. Then we walked down to the city. We got to go to M.P. twice because we got a bus back up the next day and saw it at sunrise and saw the cloud lift over it. Simply incredible!
Since then I have been wearing nothing but flip flops trying to recover from the horrendous blisters…my walking boots definitely hate me! We spent more time in Cusco where they were having their solstice festival and everything was pretty crazy. We have also been to Puno and then had a homestay with a family on an island on Lake Titcaca. It was such a good experience seeing how basic but happy these peoples´ lives are. The boys all challenged the locals to a game of football and we got dressed up in their traditional clothing and went to a fiesta in the evening. The next day we visited the floating reed islands on Lake Titcaca before making our way to La Paz where we sadly had to say goodbye to 3 members of the group. Last Saturday we met the new 4 additions to the group and our new tour guide Javier, who is absolutely hilarious. We all love him!
I am currently in Sucre, the official capital of Bolivia. It´s a really beautiful city and all the buildings are whitewashed so it looks so clean and it´s amazingly sunny! Going to Potosi tomorrow where we´re going to go down the silver mines. Then we´ve got a few days at the Uyuni Salt Flats and a 4 x 4 desert crossing in the Atacama Desert! I can´t wait!
Hope everyone is well at home…I´m trying to add some photos from the Inca Trail but as usual it´s taking forever and the page has already crashed twice!
Lots of love to everyone xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
