Waitakere! Last Saturday was a wild adventure day for us! Having seen a map, just to the left of Auckland was a large expanse of nature reserve, so Saturday's mission was to find it in the flesh. We set out on the bus in the morning with our packed-lunch. We bought a day-explorer pass and headed for, what, looked like, the nearest bus stop to our final destination. We hopped off the bus and began to walk.... two hours, and a few torrential downpours later, we finally arrived on the road we were aiming for! We took a blind guess at the direction we should head in and...bingo! We arrived at the visitors centre (see photo), what a relief! The view from there was awesome (and there was a chocolate vending machine), and we were able to take a photo of a stuffed possom, which I loved. We walked a trail called the Slip Track which was a beautiful course through some wonderful rainforest-esque woodland before hiking back towards civilisation. From there, there was going to be an hour wait for the bus back towards the city, so we decided to walk, which was a fairly long trip (totalling 13 miles), before we caught the bus back to our home, arriving just in time for supper!
