Skiing!
Nearing the end of our journey in New Zealand we had enough time left to allow three days skiing! We also had a free ski pass for one of us, worth $91 per day, which was ace. Jez patiently taught me how to parallel turn on the nursery slope before we hit the "Green". I was petrified! There's nothing to stop one whizzing off the edge and faling 3000m to one's peril, so you can imagine, with little to no experience of turning tight corners, that it was a little frightening. Jez tried to reassure me that I wouldn't fall far should I teeter over the edge. It was a very scary first run, with a few falls on the way, but we managed it and by day two we went onto a "blue" where I "caught an edge" and fell into a crumpled heap metres from my ski on, what felt like, a sheer snow face (although Jez assures me it wasn't such a steep run). I lived, however, to tell the tale.
On day three we ventured to the back of the mountain, where I had my worst injury; a knee sprain I think, nothing too serious. It was a spectacular fall- just approaching the end of the ski lift run, Jez swooped off the seat with the greatest of ease, however I wasn't so swift and had to leap off the now ascending ski lift seat, both skis were off the ground at this time, and after somehow managing to stay on my feet for the little hill leading off the lift's path, I took a tumble in spectacular style at the bottom. Thankfully I didn't have much pride in my skiing to bruise too badly!
