Landed at KL last night at 11pm adelaide time. No one even asked us how long we were staying. (all that worry about not being allowed in on one way tickets was a bit sillly) A bit exhausted. Spent some time bargaining for accomodation near the airport.
Mad taxi driver/ travel agent guy trying to get investors for a new company. Eventually agreed to a hotel in the local town around 10minutes away that was 90AUD per night. 4star. (Much better than the pan pacific hotel at airport 250 AUD) Good thing about it was that it was in the middle of a little town so you could eat locally. Had a little bit of difficulty reading the menu but got there eventually: some seafood fried rice with vegetables (8 ringgit for both of us: 3$AUD) pretty yummy and did not get sick :) so far......
Following day got up, free breakfast at hotel. Lazed around on rooftop pool. Went to local train station to catch train into KL (very cheap 5 ringgit each) Arrived in KL station on sunday and descended into the city with no idea whatsoever. Stinking hot humidity, swarms of people. Our mission was to obtain accommodation. Emily had heard the Butik Bintang was the road to stay on (A street sort of the KL equivalent of Chapel St Melbourne) We tried to find an internet cafe to suss out prices etc, but the first few we found were closed. Then we entered some kind of mega shopping mall which was totally insane. 7 levels of back to back mobile phone shops with 20 people per square metre. We clambered our way to the top to find an internet cafe but we were told it was full. Exhausted we lay in a quite corner regaining our composure before strapping on our packs fighting our way back out and finding a taxi to take us to Jalan Butik Betang.
Little did we realise it was 200 metres away, and the taxi driver took a long loop road, charging us 10 ringgit and dropping us off on a different street altogethor. Getting a bit worried now we started looking for hotels. The first one we walked into called the 'Allison' had rooms for 150 ringgit a night, but we thought we better look around. After some attempts at bargaining and finding an open internet cafe we realised the Allison just happened to be the best hotel for the money in the area. (We weren't quite ready to start the hostel accommodation after such a crazy day) The room was amazing! with incredible views of KL city scape and twin towers. Did a bit more looking around: (1gb memory cards 35ringit (13$) Had dinner that night on Jalan Aloo (Malay for food Street and KL equivalent Lygon St) Ate from street stalls 30 ringgit.
