Evening!
I am now in SilverStar in the snow. I arrived here yesterday morning and went straight on my job hunt. It didn't take long as the place is tiny!!!
A few places took my CV in case, some rejected it completely and two said they'd know in a week what staff they need... hmmm...
Silver Star is very pretty though, there's no roads once you reach the car park at the top of the mountain, it's just deep snow everywhere throughout the village! All you can see around you is white and trees and you can vaguely see some green in the distance down in the valley. it's like a little lost village at the top of a mountain. Yesterday was a beautifully sunny day as well so I managed to get some much clearer pictures and for once I didn't get snowed or rained on :-) Silver Star makes me think of a little Christmas village with different coloured houses, blue, green, purple, pink etc... Kind of like the Christmas down in the Nightmare Before Christmas!! I will get the photos up soon.
Unfortunately the ski lifts don't open until Friday so there's not much to do but sit in a cafe with a hot chocolate and read waiting for someone to offer you a job!!
I got chatting to a few people in the hostel today and once again, more unpromising chat about jobs. I applied to the bakery and has an interview and that was one of the places that said they would hire this week and let me know as soon as they had decided. They had two positions going, one full time and one part time. I found out this evening that the full time position was given today.. Hmf! That just leaves me with the gift shop who said maybe she might have some hours. The general chat is that most of the jobs here are taken already, mainly by those who worked here last year... My room mate's chat was not much better as she had been looking for 3 weeks for a job in Victoria in the summer and when she did start working, she didn't have any savings left to see any sights in Canada. She got the job here in SilverStar through a friend. Soooo.... I am moving on again... hopefully tomorrow if I can get back down the mountain (Apparently you've just got to wait until someone is already heading up the mountain anyway - no shuttles in place yet pre season!! Haha!)
The plan now is to hand out more CVs in a different resort and then head to Banff to do some skiing. I figured shops and restaurants in 3 resorts will then have my CV with my number to ring me if they have work. In the meantime, I don't want to be bored in a hostel waiting for that call so I'm going to see some of Canada :-)
I will update you shortly with news on Kicking Horse and Banff.
Night night
XxX
