So I did the tourist thing today. Started by walking from the louvre up the champs-élysées all the way to the arc du triomphe. What makes this walk so amazing is the fact that it acts as a marker in the distance the whole way.
Passed the flagship Louis vitton store on the way down the strip. Feel unworthy to just look at the store 5 stories with a dome viewing level. Will go back apparently the patisserie with the best macaroons in Paris is just across the road will need to go there.
Only 6 euros and no line to the arc du triomphe so I figured why not. There's more to see on the outside just like notre dame but the view at the top is pretty spectacular old historical Paris down one end of the champs-élysées modern Paris down the other.
Figured it was time to get away from the tourist crowds and get something to eat. Found this incredible fresh food market with traditional Moroccan, Japanese, French and Greek stalls set up as tiny restaurants as well. These are the places worth visiting. The food is unbelievable and most operate under a try before you buy mentality so before you even buy anything you're already full. By the way the place is called Le Marche les enfants rouge.
I'm sorry this seems to be turning into more of a guide rather than a blog.
The final thing worth mentioning is that I managed a tour of the catacombs of Paris today well 2 km of them. Complete with the largest ossuary in the world and a sign that says 'STOP! This is the empire of death' the low roof made it difficult to walk without turning my neck slightly but that was part of the gloomy atmosphere. Anyone who's played a dungeon crawler video game will know what I'm talking about when you see it but it seriously felt like it was lifted straight of a video game with wall covered in strange messages written in Latin and old French. Many words not used anymore. Bones piled on either side for 100s of metres sometimes higher than 2 metres. Halfway through I came across a crypt and I almost felt like walking up to it pulling the lid off and claiming the rare treasure inside as my own. It sounds kinda stupid but to anyone out there who's played a video game I dare you to try and not think it. Even the grated doors beckon with the thoughts of what lies beyond just don't turn your back the creatures of the depths might attack. I'll post some photos and you'll see what I mean just beware can't take flash photography which is just as well because it barely works anyway.
It almost 6 time for a nap before going out for drinks
A la prochaine
