My Galapagos Adventure continued......
The next morning began with an excursion to Genovesa ISland, an old imploded volcano populated with massive colonies of Frigate birds, boobies ( these are also a type of native bird.....) as well as lots of other sea birds. Our guide PEdro talked with great enthusiasm about each of the various species but I confess I got a little lost along the way with all the various types. I do however have lots of photos to bore everyone with on my return!
Then after lunch, snorkelling time, and this time as well as more turtle we saw a group of about a dozen golden hawk rays ( at least I think that is the name, Annie can correct me if I am wrong). It was quite amazing to see so may cruisingalong beneath us. That was followed by an afternoon excursion to EL BArranco island. This was supposed to be a dry landing ie no wading in from the shore to the beach. Made sense as we were landing onto a rocky island otherwise known as PRince Philipp's Steps. What we hadn't realised is that the method used to land onto the steps which are rocks carved into the cliff face is to literally wait for a big wave and ride the wave in the dinghies towards the rock face and just jump out once the boat had risen the crest of the wave up the rock face to the steps. There was about a 3 second window to jump out and on my turn the wave was shorter than expected and didn't reach the steps so instead of jumping out, I had to hurl myself back down into the boat as we plunged back down into the water. I said to Pedro afterward I made it on land that I hoped the wildlife was worth it, and it was, all part of the adventure!!
