Dad G The girls have had an interesting week. Ther stay at Lake malawi was extended after Eleanor became ill with possible malarie and dissentry which involved a visit to the local hospital. She was given a 3 day course of tablets which brought an immediate improvement after 24 hours. having regain her strength, the girls visited a new orphanage where there wers some albino children, abandonded by their parents. they were shown a paper making facility which is trying to raise money for the local community. They are now at Monkey island which they describe as just fantastic and very beautiful

Laura Clarkie Well well girlies, it does sound absolutely wonderful as predicted and a real adventure! I've got a 'proper' job as an env consultant in Wakefield. I have only done a week but it's been really interesting so far! Looking for a place to move to in Sheffield at the moment. As it'll be a better commute and as you know a certain lovely boy is living there too. Can't wait to hear more stories. Lots and lots of love xxxxx

Hazzy Dearest Elz and Emz! I had a fantastic birthday, with mulled wine and letting chinese lanterns off across the river! Thank you ever so much for your cards and choccy, much loved, as are you both! It's great reading what mummyT and mummyG have got to say about your african adventures! Can't wait to speak to you both when you are back! I got to drive an electric car the other day with work, it has no gears and the handbrake is where the clutch is! So cooool!!! Also, I have to get glasses! The lenses will have prisms in to help my eyes turn in so they can focus! hehehehe! MumT for anyone who's interested- Spoke to Emma on Friday. They were in Blantyre staying with my Mums friend- a welcome family home after their mountain climbing! They were guided by Wonderford himself up sapitwa and another peak- I suspect Nakodzwe . They them spent a night at Wonderford's own home before being put on a bus to Blantyre- sounds like he really looked after them ! Now on their way to Zomba and they have booked a safari in Liwonde from the 9th. They extended their visas in Blantyre and I think the plan is to go from Zomba to Lake Malawi and after a couple of days there to head up the lake on the steamer to the north and then back down to Lilongwe overland But they're only making any bookings a few days at a time.

Linda Gifford Latest Update from Eleanor & Emma Tuesday 26 Oct. 10 The girls have spent last few days at the orphanage at Smile Malawi. Yesterday they walked the children to school, then came back and fell asleep (it is very very hot in middle of day). The children have been particularly taken by their cameras, and often ‘borrow’ the camera to take photos of Eleanor and Emma. They don’t yet have the right idea because either legs or heads are missing! This camp charges $25 a night to stay so they cant stay too long. They will be leaving camp on Thursday to climb Mulanje mountain through the Forest Reserve. They have hired a guide, another ??? and two porters to make the ascent, 3,000metres at highest point , (the equivalent of climbing highest mountains in UK) - Quite a challenge! Eleanor has now admitted that the heat and her throat infection (3 days on antibiotics so far has helped a lot, she was no longer croaky) has set off her asthma so not sure if they will make it to the top – apparently there are less strenuous routes to the top which less hard-core climbers use - we encouraged them to consider this option – best to get to the top, even if it’s the ‘easy way’!!!! They dont expect to see wildlife as such, this is for the views, possibility of seeing unique plants & animals and the challenge of climbing itself. Mountain climbing should take five days.............then they will start heading north. Plan after Mulanje is to go safari in Limonde park (expensive - so this will be their ‘treat’). They are conserving battery on the mobile because very few places with electricity to top it up/recharge. They did get onto internet whilst in Blantyre but slow and not cheap! They have read the message board and appreciate the support. Mastercard-friendly places are almost non-existent. They have switched to Visa. They expected to be able to get dollars on the black market (with help from Lynn and locals) but that hasn’t worked out so they will have to get 20million Kwacha or some similar enormous number to pay for their mountain trek. Needless to say we did the worried parent thing of ‘divide the money up in several places on your person and your bags.

Mum now slightly older! HI We're back in Bristol Having shared the colder end of the african continent with you! the Atlas mountains were spectacular, but very chilly at night . We got to the top! Linda Gifford message from eleanor & emma We spoke yesterday on skype -they had arrived at orphanage and were waiting to meet the children. Last two weeks had been amazing, they plan to return at end of trip. Lynn & 'the driver' have been so helpful!After four days at orphanage they will decide definitive plan for rest of time taking advice from local guides. Eleanor's voice was SO croaky (dry hot desert conditions) -but it was obvious the two of them were 1) looking after each other and 2) having the bestest time ever!

Keith Gifford Message from Ellie & Emma I will have to be quick because we are off to bed at half 7!!! We did wake up to watch the sun rise at 5am! But anyway thank you so much for your chatty email, it’s made me happy happy. The internet connection in Malawi in general is really really bad and so slow so we have decided to give up because otherwise we could be spending so much money on spending a long time on the internet so we have decided the best thing to do is for you to sign into my skype account and ring us on our Malawi sim card. We won’t have our phone on all the time because we don’t need to use it and we don’t want to run down the battery but maybe if you give us a call next Saturday because we will be travelling to Blantyre and the lady there is going to pick us up from Blantyre and take us to the orphanage smile Malawi. Well that’s the plan at the moment. I have too much to say but we saw a heard of 4 elephants today as we drove out and yesterday night we watched a single male elephant around camp. He stayed with us for more than an hour and half and we were so happy just to watch him through the trees. He was probs about 200m away and we were’nt allowed to get any closer. But it was so amazing to see him so much in the wild. It made it so special and they are fantastic majestic creatures. We are going to teach the kids at the school tomorrow and then going to the other camp at dedza on Thursday to sleep under the stars and see how the new build is going.
