So let's go back to Thursday afternoon. I left Saul's to head back to the old town to collect my (hopefully all sorted) iPhone. I almost wept with joy when it was handed back to me all perfect and shiny and pretty and when we put a sim card in it and it WORKED. I'm just so useless when it comes to sorting his kind of stuff out, so the relief was enormous. For those that don't know already, my Chinese number is: +86 159-6321-9508. Add me on whatsapp/facetime etc, it's so lovely to hear from people back in the UK!
After an hour or so of playing around with my new toy, I headed off to meet my estate agent once again (his name is Kaka btw). We saw a few mediocre flats out new the university but nothing that inspiring. It was humid as hell, I'd barely eaten anything all day and I was beginning to get tired of trapsing around, but then he showed me this flat in the centre of town - WOW. I don't want to go on about it too much in case the landlady suddenly changes her mind about me moving in or something, but basically I put a deposit down and I should be moving in Saturday night! Yayyy
I headed over to Saul's to share the happy news - Helena has found a flat too so we had a mini-celebration. But Saul still wasn't feeling too well, so I left fairly quickly to head home.
Remember I was saying that the security guard outside Saul's flat was chatting me up and got my number the other day? Well he was there again... unforunately. He'd sent me several text during the day, my favourite one being (in Chinese): "Hey Ellie, where are you? I miss you!!!" bahahaha NO YOU DON'T. He tried it on again today with all sorted of excellent lines, but being entirely uninterested and too tired to banter I just walked off. This has taught me a useful lesson though: never give your number out just to be nice, as you will be hounded. The trouble is with this case is that even if I delete his number I'll still have to see him EVERY time I go to Saul's flat in the evening. Oh dear. Maybe I'll have to tell him I'm a lesbian.
After I got back to the hostel I went up to a room next to the bar full of sofas etc so I could use my laptop for a while without disturbing the others in my dorm. I spontaneously FaceTimed my Dad to see if it worked and he picked up so that was lovely! Was then chatted up by a really slimy old Chinese guy, who thankfully I shooed away fairly easily, urghhh. Went to bed happy but my head absolutely buzzing with all the progess I'd made during the day
Now it's Friday and I've had a pretty chill day. Went to the Bank of China this morning to withdraw a RIDICULOUS amount of cash for paying landlord/estate agent etc. Then headed to Saul's as it's nicer to chill there than in the hostel. Met up with a really cool Chinese lady called Scarlet for coffee in the afternoon- she was super interesting to talk to so hopefully I'll meet up with her again soon. Should be a quiet evening before the big day tomorrow!
