Hello!
It is me!
I’ve not done one of these for a while....
My last blog was way back in April about New Zealand. Since then I have worked, played rugby against Australia’s backline and travelled the remainder of the East Coast. I was lucky enough to be taken back in at the Department of Corrective Services (PRISON!) which gave me the much needed funds for the rest of my trip and meant I played most of the ladies rugby season with the Waverley girls.....and oh boy rugby here is a different game all together. Playing on Saturdays, Rugby training on Bondi beach, no mud and sunscreen instead of Vaseline. A brilliant bunch of girls, a brilliant game- an awesome time! Just when I got into the swing of my Australian life it was time for me to escape prison, pack my backpack and finish off the rest of my Australian travels.....
Brisbane to Cape Trib. A pretty good corner of Australia!
Over the 3 and half weeks I stopped in Noosa, Rainbow Beach, Fraser Island, Airlie Beach, Whitsundays, Magnetic Island, Mission beach, Cairns, Port Douglas and Cape Trib. I’ve kayaked, jumped out of a plane, driven a Barbie car, had 3 overnight buses, swam amongst thousands of the most beautiful and colourful fish and alongside a turtle, seen sharks, crocs and whales and had my underwear stolen by dingos.
We set off to Fraser Island from Rainbow Beach in an old 4WD, loaded up with 32 litres of goon (cheap wine in a box) and I put my life in the hands of 3 French guys and Israeli guy that’d been given 10 minutes tuition on how to drive this thing. It sounds like nothing but a recipe for disaster. But we all survived and so did our car. Fraser Island itself is ummmm very very umm sandy. Lake Mackenzie is beautiful and the huge sand dunes are brilliant for rolling down. We camped, cooked, sang and partied on the beach, only to be interrupted by the odd dingo. A good few days!
Next stop was the beautiful Whitsundays. This was a pretty chilled out few days of sailing in the beautiful sunshine, sunbathing and snorkelling. Hard life ey?!
Next stop was Magnetic Island, also known as Maggie. Supposedly famous for all of the Koala hanging around in the trees above you, but I think it is now more famous for the Mokes you hire to drive around the little island. During the 3 days we spotted one Koala but 100’s of people taking pictures of the various Mokes zooming around. We obviously opted for a pink Barbie one accompanied by the girliest, cheesiest sounds track we could create.
Then it was Mission Beach for my Skydive. Now I honestly thought that Skydive would be easy. I mean you have someone attached to you. You get a minute to pretend to be superman, blow a few kisses for the camera then you just have to sit back and take in the scenery. Oh how wrong I was! 14000 feet is pretty god damn high! Thankfully we had cloud cover which made things a little better.... I mean everyone knows clouds are soft, cushiony and bouncy?! I don’t remember getting to the front of the plane, but once I was there, there was no going back you are out of the plane in seconds. Then whooooooooohooooo! Amazing! But just in case you did believe clouds are soft, cushiony and bouncy. They are not! Fricken absolutely FREEZING!
Then it was up to Cape Trib for some rainforest walks and snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef....again wow! A couple of days chilling in Port Douglas and a few nights out in Cairns.
I am now back here in Sydney with Leigh and Gemma for my last few days in Australia. I’ve lots to do. I have somehow acquired twice as many clothes as when I left the UK 9 months ago and I have to decide what to do with them all. It will be pretty hard saying Bye Bye to Leigh and Gemma tomorrow night but I’ll be seeing them not long after I am home and I am very excited about seeing my Mummy in Thailand.
Hope you are all well, keep in touch
Love n kisses
Ellen
