Ellen's Mini Adventure!
Hello all, just a quickie to say that i am all checked in and am at Singapore airport nice and early to do some last minute bits and pieces before my flight to Darwin at 9.20pm this evening.
Firstly......and this is something those of you who get the tube and those of you who were on the tour with me can appreciate....i thought id save myself a few pennies (well....$16 to be precise!) and get the bus/monorail to the airport.......all looked easy enough on the map, and with an evening flight thought i could take my time in getting here........well blow me if that was the worst idea- EVER!! ha. I donned my flip flops (bad idea number 1) and set off on the 15 minute walk to the bus stop........sweating already- damn! Anyway, get onto a FULL bus, ladened with my rucksacks and Frank my pillow.....and seriously took up half the bus....smooth Ellen!! I was only on the bus for 15 minutes, thank goodness, as it was blimin hot on there, and of course no seats, especially not for me and my other half.....being my rucksack! Then i arrive at the monorail station, only to find i have no change (bad move number 2), and as you tour peeps will appreciate i then had to queue with all the other unorganised people in getting change......so now all sorted.....me thinks.....only to find i scan my ticket, go to walk through, and get stuck (Big rucksack problem number 3)!!! Yep...thats right......in the middle of a busy interchange monorail station, there is me stuck in a ticket turnstile........ha ha...had to be physically pushed through by two Japenese girls behind me.....and for the remainder of the journey had to use the disabled machines!!
Busy monorail means standing for the thirty minute ride, by now cant feel my feet, blimin flip flops, can only be grateful that it was air conned, otherwise id have put money on me not making it through alive! So...lesson learnt...sometimes taking the 'rough it traveller' option is not for the best...it just makes you hot and sweaty....but you'll be pleased to know i had a smile on my face the whole time, and the experience was quite memorable!!! ha
However, here i am safe and sound, and with a window seat too....im chuffed! The Singaporeans are actually letting me leave Asia, and theres me thinking that being here six months they would offer me residency!!!!
Right, im off for a massage at the airport (blimin journey here has given me back ache!! So infact, i may as well have got a taxi for the price of my massage- damn!!)....this place has everything....Heathrow needs to seriously get some tips from Singapore on customer care!!
Next email will come from Australian soil, and i am so excited now.......woo wooooo.
Be in touch soon, touch down in Darwin at midday tomorrow my time, and i have no idea on the time difference yet- will let you know!
Love me xxxxxxx
