Ellen's Mini Adventure!
Apologies, the internet access has been few and far between since leaving school over a month ago, and being on such a fun packed tour meant i had little time to upload photos, but plenty of opportunities to take them....hence the HUGE addition to my website photo section www.ellenmoriarty.com of all my tour pics!
The tour ended on Saturday, and the group all went their seperate ways, some went home, some onto Australia and some onto Bali, however i stuck around in Singapore, and i am still here now, until Sunday the 23rd July.......when i bid a fond farewell to asia.....for this trip at least, and a HUGE G'day to sunny sunny Australia!!
The past two weeks have been jam packed, as we made our way from Koh Phangan, Thailand, and left the beach scene far behind and crossed the border into Malaysia. First stop here being Penang, where we made a bee-line for the shopping centre and hit such tourist spots as Penang Hill and got some amazing pics of a fantatsic view. Penang also boasts a good night life, and we certainly made ourselves at home in the bars there, including Soho and Slippery Senoritas where dancing was mandatory and looking like a plonker was all part of the nght- Paul, Catherine, Emma, Pete, Marie, Mike and I made a great amount of effort and succeeded in having one of the best nights! From Penange we headed further south to the Cameron Highlands.........
What an amazing setting and i was appreciating the drastic temperature drop more than anything else.....was so cool....my first taste of having a slight chill since home 6 months ago........was GREAT! We were lucky enough here, that most of our group were ataying in a lush apartment, so of course a house party was required, and in true 'school house party' style, it was messy and so much fun! We awoke bright and early the next morning for a half day of jungle trekking and sight seeing- some feeling a little worse than others eh Em???- but was a fantastic day, we went to a butterfly insect farm, a tea plantation, where i bought my Nan some Cameron Highland tea bags.....a nice cuppa for you there Nan! and also went to the highest point in the Highlands, as well as a truely amusing jungle trek, was beautiful and muddy- a great time was had in the Highlands!
From here, we headed onto the infamous Kuala Lumpa (KL for those of us who are familiar with it!!ha)......a bustling city, full of shops and tourist activities to do, including the tallest rollercoaster inside a shopping centre......was a little dissapointing, however one innocent looking ride turned my stomach, and turned me beetroot in colour....not going back on that again in a hurry! KL is host to the tallest twin towers in the world....and boy are they tall!!! Also an amzing tower where we were able to fully appreciate the city from a 360 degree revolving deck- ace! We boarded the monorail and took a tour of the city, and the evening was set aside for some group celebrating........and we hit the town in style!
Time in KL passed quickly, and soon enough we were in Melaka, our last Malaysian stop! Melaka was a small town, but very pretty, and we stayed in nice clean accommodation here, with a fantastic shower.....the smallest things are pleasures for us travellers you know! ha! Another bonus here........a swimming pool!!! The girls and i donned our swimwear and made the most of the nice weather by chilling in the pool.....unfortunately for the boys...unless they were willing to wear some rather attractive hired speedos they were not allowed in the water........we tried our best to get the lads into the tight attire but they were having none of it!
Last friday we left Malaysia and arrived in the bustling Singapore. And i LOVE this place! I had heard mixed reviews before arriving, but this is a jam packed city, so much to do, and so much to keep you busy! It is clean, the people are friendly and this is my first real taste of the Western world in 6 months........
Friday through til Monday was spent with the remaining tour group members. Friday night we went to Raffles and enjoyed an original Singapore Sling, was beautiful! The atmosphere was great and the company even better, and a perfect end to the tour. We continued the weekend by exploring the highest point in Singapore called Mount Faber, this was also known as Greg Day..........a day where poor little Greg, who was flying home Sunday morning and was missing out on our day of fun Sunday, was able to do anything he wanted for the day! Was a great great day actually, and we did loads, including an ace cable car ride, and visiting Little India and China Town and the shopping central of Orchard Road. Plus, i had my first taste of Sushi.......im a fan!
Greg Day over (thank god!-only joking Greggie in fact Cath and I loved it, looking forward to plenty more in Aus ;-) ) we had an amazing day on Sunday where we visited Sentosa island, an island only 1/2 km off the coast of Singapore, and right next to Indonesia. Here we went to underwater World, Butterfly park, Water and light shows and most exciting of all.........a dolphin show!!! Where, yes indeed, i was picked from the whole audience to go in the water with the dolphins............i was chuffed to bits, and was an amazing experience, the pics do not do it justice! Dolphin kisses, and dolphin hula hoop- wooooow oooooooooooo!!
Monday i went on a night safari at the infamous Singapore zoo, which was cool, and then i was on my tod, until.................
Tuesday afternoon i was abducted by two guys from Kent!!!! The lovely Colin and Simon! Plus Colins ace sister Bernie! All three had just come from Australia, and now we have ended up spending the week together, we have been to the zoo during the day and the Singapore Science Museum......all fun fun fun fun fun !!!!!!
So, in fact, this week on 'my own'....ha ha ha....has been very busy and i have had little sleep and indeed on keeping it that way until Sunday when i fly to australia!
So....think thats it, all updated, last photos are now loading onto the website, so check them all out!
Lots of love to you all,
me xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
