We moved on to Salzburg today, so no more Italy until I'm back in Turin on the 20th. It's weird being in a country where Italian isn't all over the place (I was just getting the hang of it!), but it's also a relaxing change to know that I haven't got a hope of understanding anything so there's no point even trying.
Basically we got up this morning, ate, and left Venice ASAP so that we would arrive in Austria early. We got here around 2pm I think, and then Amy took us for a quick orientation tour and left up in town. Leah, Liz, Lexi and I all wandered for a bit (ate HUGE apfel pretzels) and shopped a bit etc before heading back to YoHo Hostel. I love it here already - it's so lovely and quaint but at the same time there's stuff to do everywhere and palaces and a fortress and THE SOUND OF MUSIC (doing an official SoM tour tomorrow for four hours!!). I'll definitely be back, hopefully with Mum and Dad and Cha!
The hostel's really nice. I was meant to be in a 4 person room with the three girls I mentioned up there, but due to another girl having gender mixing issues the rooms got all tossed up and now I'm in a 'couples room' with two Australian couples and Matt, another Australian. Everyone on this tour is from there, pretty much. I think there are four New Zealanders and one Korean, and then Amy and Brian (tour leader Amy = Welsh, bus driver Brian = Pom) who aren't from there. Plus, there are only four guys in the whole group, out of about 45 people! Mental.
Man, I feel like someone has put a tube into my stomach and is constantly pumping food in. Even when we haven't eaten for a while I feel full but when I skip a meal then I just get hungry later on and it's so hard! Stupid heavy European winter food... But it's so good! I only had salad for dinner tonight! As Dad said, I will be eating only dust when I get home. For the rest of my life.
One person who shall remain nameless (but they will probably read this and know who they are and remember a certain day in classics) deserves lots of thanks for the water advice. I had so much water on New Year's day that I was making sloshing noises, but it WORKED. Ta love.
