Travels And Tribulations
We only had a half day to see the caves (bc we mixed up our bus departure time) so we set off for Ellora early in the morning. Today was India's Independence Day, so traffic was steady the entire 40km.
The caves are amazing. Unbelievable that all of this was carved out of one piece of granite. It took 200 years and thousands of men, many of whom passed the skill and obligation down to their sons, and so on, for many generations.
The caves represent a time of religious peace as Buddhist monasteries, Hindu temples and Muslim places of worship all shared space within the massive rock (much as they do all over India today).
