We have now arrived in Budapest, at another Wombats hostel. This time we stayed in a very central location, and it was great!
We started off our Hungarian experience with a traditional Hungarian group dinner. It's was absolutely massive... I had Chicken Goulash, and though it was delicious, I only managed to make it through about a third of it. Huge portions, and big beers. Welcome to eastern Europe!
That night we went out to a ruin bar, where everything is all mismatched, and there is different music in different rooms, and it was alot of fun! It was a really neat atmosphere.
Next day we woke up and hopped on a free walking tour. Seriously, for anyone doing Europe in the future, hit up as many free walking tours as you can. Its usually young locals, so they known their city really well. And they work strictly for tips at the end of the tour. So they want to give you the best damn tour, son that you give them money when you're finished.
Tour was awesome, and we finished off with a fantastic view of the "two cities" from the Buda (hill) side, and we could see all across Pest. Very cool. Onwards to the house of Terror... This was an incredibly eery museum, dedicated to the war crimes and torture that happened during world war two, and the cold war, a lot of which happened in that very building. It was dedicated to the victims, but is also very confronting and there is an entire hallway with the perpetrators and torturers photos along the walls. Kind of a Name and Shame, and a way to say "regardless of what good you may have done since, you're actions will never be forgotten". Several of the people who's photos were on the wall, are still alive today.
We did a quick visit to the big market, and then had a mediocre dinner. Followed by an evening out to another ruin bar. This one had 23 rooms, and a tonne of people. Twas certainly a night to remember!
