Ooh, a New country! Welcome to Austria!
We arrived in Austrian in the lovely little town of Salzburg. Most well known as the setting of The Sound of Music. I had to try really ridiculously hard not to burst into song, and no one would join in with me...
We took a little walking tour flight when we arrived, and saw Salzburg at night. It was beautiful! There was a big lit up pedestrian bridge across the river, and it was certainly a stunning sight. We continued our tour through to see the castle high up on the cliff, and wandered through the Salzburg Christmas Market. Finished off with my very first schnitzel at our group dinner, and settled in for a quiet evening in the hostel.
Day two in Salzburg consisted of breakfast in the hostel, followed by a long leisurely walk around Salzburg. Climbed the footpath and stairs ton the top of the cliff to see the view from the castle. Followed by lunch in the Christmas market (bratwurst, and ridiculously unhealthy but incredibly delicious stuffed baked potato) and some more wandering. Saw the Nonnberg Convent (that's Maria's convent "how do you solve a problem like Maria?") And did some souvenir shopping. We went as a group to massive bierhaus for dinner and 1L steins of beer, and then had a big night of entertaining drinking at the hostel. Certainly got to know my tour mates, as some of you know just how much you can learn about people playing Sociables (or as the Aussies call it, King's Cup).
Onwards to Vienna!
