Hi all,
we are still in Mindo, seeing some amazing birds!! You would not believe the colours of the hummingbirds! This afternoon we watched a toucanet feeding it,s baby. We have met some very friendly gringos here - spent today with a couple from New Mexico who are building a house here - it is 3000 sq ft with decks all around. They are also building a small house for a full-time caretaker - both houses together will cost about $80,000!! They are also birders and took us to some good sites , as well as trails on thier own 50 acres.
The weather has been warm, 20 degrees or so (T-shirts, maybe long sleeves at night)- the days generally start out sunny, or overcast but it usually rains about 2pm for an hour or so and again in the evening. Ecuador has been having power problems as it was a very dry summer and there was not enough water for the hydroelectric dams so power is out for a couple of hours each day - during the day so no problem for us.
Have been really enjoying lots of fresh fruit, some new to us and the food generally is good.
Speaking of that, it,s time for dinner.
Take care and don,t forget to write to us!

Ann lovely to read your blog - envy you the birds and especially the exotic fruit! Be glad you're not here, lots of snow but raining now - you know Don's philosophy "if God put it there, let God take it away" and He's managing very well! Look forward to your next entry.... A & D
Denise Hi and best wishes for Christmas to both of you. Apologies for not Skyping before you took off - I didn't realise the date you were going. I'm off to Sydney on Thursday for 10 days. Annika, Michael and Mikaela have come down from Brisbane so we will spend time with Michael's family then head up the Hawkesbury River to a caravan site. I'm pleased to hear that the caravans are air conditioned as it's likely to be around 40deg there. Sam is off to London in March on a secondment with work for six months which is great. Anyway have a super Christmas and 'talk' again soon. Love Denise
Janice Lake Wow.. so great to hear your latest. Ecuador was one of my favorite countries to explore. Can't believe I was there 20 years ago!!! It was super to meet up with you both, and we obviously needed a lot more time to talk travel!! Enjoy the festivities 'tropical style'. Merry Christmas. Love Janice

Tish Am delighted to receive these updates. Allsounds VERY exciting, exotic and fun. Not sure I'd want to belay down a mountain side unless I was sure there was good ER services available! will toast you both and the birds on Christmas day as we feed the troops of Kelsey's and their attachments. I'll be here next summer if you want to watch whales instead of birds. Tish
Charlie and Jen A HAPPY CHRISTMAS and A WONDERFUL and HEALTHY NEW YEAR wish you Charlie and Jen. Be ready to hang with some borin' Old Fogies, Jen excepted, in 2010. Rather than testing bamboo ladders, wet spray and other outdated Inca devices to get some flying objects in front of your lenses....CJ
Barbara Merry Christmas, hope you're enjoying the tree house ! Love and best wishes for a super 2010. We're thinking of you, Love Barbara, Ray and Stacey
