So we're actually not in Las Vegas right now - we're in a place called Lone Pine near to Death Valley but we had to have a journal entry from the entertainment capital of the world!!!
On the way to Vegas we made sure that we went on Route 66 (for all of about 5 miles!) and got a photo.
We spent three nights in Vegas and had an awesome time. Think we covered almost every single one of the major casinos on the strip. Didn't gamble in all of them but each one was pretty cool. I'll just give you a quick run down of our favourite bits otherwise this could go on for ages.
Bellagio - fantastic fountains and pretty nice inside too - lots of high end shops!
Caesars - massive casino, pretty lively and loads of good shops here.
Mirage - cool volcano outside!
Treasure Island - big pirate show! Chris enjoyed because lots of semi-clad women!
New York New York - very bumpy rollercoaster on the outside which was fun, really liked the vibe of this one as well.
Hard Rock - we stayed here, was full of young bronzed people looking to spend oodles of money. We managed to restrain ourselves and only had a bit of a flutter on roulette, slot machines and a very brief stop at blackjack. We had doubled our money at one point on roulette but got greedy and managed to lose it all! Oh well it was good fun! Charles as we got to roulette just before placing our bets red 27 came up! We were gutted, did put some money on it a few goes later but no joy!
Stratosphere - retro hotel at the far north of the strip - great views from the top. Saw plenty of seedy places around, and loads of wedding chapels as well - don't worry neither of us were tempted!
Mandalay Bay - went to Shark reef which was good fun, one of our faves this place.
MGM - went here on last night and got lured into the 'Grand Buffet'. We prepared well by not eating all day, needless to say we left feeling very full. Though I'm pretty sure we didn't put away half of what some of the people in there did!
Grand Canyon - one of our must-sees on the trip so we splashed out on a fantastic helicopter ride over there. Were collected from our hotel in a limo which was pretty cool, then boarded our 7 person helicopter to fly over the hoover dam and eventually into the canyon itself. Pretty amazing experience. Had a champagne picnic in the canyon before leaving to head back for a flyover the strip. Amazing!
Drove through Death Valley today, much more mountainous than we had both imagined. Luckily the car was good for us and we had no problems. Being the worrier that I am I had insisted that we had about 3 gallons of water in the car - reckon we would have got there quicker without it! Oh well better safe than sorry. Highest US recorded temperature for yesterday was in Death Valley at 109 degrees - hot hot hot!
Off to Yosemite tomorrow before Lake Tahoe at the weekend.
