Eleana's African Travels
Hello everyone!! What an amazing night I had last night. Ann a membr of Wellness Africa, her new fiance Heim and one of their friends took us out to eat at a traditional African restraunt called Moya. It was unbelievable. I ate ostrich and pumpkin potatoes which was very very good!! During dinner traditional African dancers came and danced for us at out table and played their drums and sang. It was an experience. Later in dinner an African storyteller came and told ole African folktales. It was a great way to get introduced into the culture. I had an unbelievable time. It was amazing how much my new friends which have live in Africa all there life knew about America. They new everything. Dinner conversation was amazing in the fact they wanted to learn as much from us as we wanted to learn from them. I realized over dinner that social class is easily discussed among Afrikans (yes that is how you spell it) either you are rich or you are poor. There is very little middle class. During conversation they asked me if I was very rich because I came to Africa. I quicley corrected him and told him that I had an amazing support system at home and without their support that I would not be here. It is just fun learning all the differences in the cultures. Most Afrikans speak both English and Afrikan which is similar to Dutch. I learned a few words!!! Lacker means cool or in style. Donka means thank you, and scliger means napkin. At dinner I asked for a napkin and the waiter just looked at me. I asked him again and he turned to my friend laughing and asked what I wanted and he said a scliger. So far it has been amazing. As soon as I can hook up my computer I will ost pictures. I miss you all and thank you co much for your support!!!!
