Well what's a girl with a four hour layover to do, but sit and write about her flight? Sadly there really isn't much to say. But given the clusterpluck mess that my KLM tickets were to get in the last few days, an unremarkable flight was very nice.
We were delayed leaving due to a powerful rainstorm that hit Calgary about three minutes after we pulled away from the gate. But we were in the air maybe thirty minutes later so it wasn't a big deal at all. I've already heard the flooding and hail was impressive, so we were lucky it wasn't a bigger deal. And we used the new YYC runway, so that excited the travel nerd in me.
My first master plan was also a fail. I had slept very little for most of the week, in the hopes that I would crash out on the plane. Not so much. So I watched a few Marvel superhero movies, suffered through the annoying almost sleeping head bob thing and apparently avoided any deep vein thrombosis. I'm coming out on top really.
But leg one is complete and I even got a Netherlands stamp in the good old passport. And further to my travel nerd observations, I have rekindled my fascination with public toilets. It's not like I'm squatting over a hole or anything, but they are different here. The construction of the stalls and the seats seem rounder.
I'm sure my random observations will persist throughout this trip. I promise to share the most irrelevant ones as often as possible. For example, it may seem like a good idea to save the airline muffin from breakfast in your purse for later when you're feeling snacky. But trust me, that muffin is gonna get smushed beyond acceptable pastry recognition. But you can also trust.... I still ate the crap outta that blueberry muffin mush.
And a shout out to Kevin for the ride to the airport and for taking the first trip photo with my passport. For the solo traveller, any non-selfie picture is to be treasured.
Alright, I'm off to troll the duty free and try to find a charging station for the phone. Oh how quickly the old habits return. Stealing muffins and electricity everywhere I go....
