Been ages since I've wrote on this! I need to stop slacking.
In Jakarta right now, arrived on saturday night. Staying in the Ritz-Carlton which is very nice! Although there was a bit of a fuss when we got there as they didn't have the room we'd booked so Dad kicked off and it all got sorted :) The Ritz is dead nice but it's a bit too much I think.. Everywhere smells of polish, there's a dress code and people are coming into your room several times a day to clean it and stuff. Staying in a hotel can get a bit annoying after a while! The hotel's within a huge shopping complex so at least when Dad's working and I'm not then I've got somewhere safe to wander round. Although I am working a lot at the minute filling in databases for Casmax.
The last 5 days consisted of filling in databases really! Although the monday and tuesday I was free to sunbathe as I wasn't needed :) The weather was really hot in Siagon but it's the rainy season so every now and again would be a mega downpour.
On the Monday night we were meant to meet the guys from the Premier Oil offices but we got the wrong address so stayed at this other bar we found! Was very nice though and the guys working behind the bar made me a free cocktail :) Which was probably the strongest cocktail I've ever had! Dad thought that had ulterior motives ha.
We met up for a Thai meal on the tuesday night (30th June) in Siagon with James, Phuong and Thuong. The meal was lovely! Then we met to a Spainish themed bar which was nice :) But we had to be back earlyish as I was working the next day.
If I remember rightly wednesday was pretty uneventful apart from me finding out the database entries I'd done that day had been completely pointless as something hadn't been set up properly for us! I don't really understand all that all I cared about was the fact I had to do it all over again.. So i bargained with Dad and he said he'd pay me again for that same one as I had to re-do it :)
Thursday I woke up feeling really ill, sore throat and a temperature. But I still went to work after taking some ibuprofen which didn't really help! In the afternoon we went to Binh Tay market which was very hot and sweaty but a bit of retail therapy made me forget about me feeling ill for a while :) I bought a fake Louis Vuitton handbag which is really nice but when I pulled it out the bag once home it had broken :( it's fixable but just a bit of a pain. After this we went for a meal at a lovely French restaurant and I had a yummy warm choc pudding! Which I'd been craving for a while aha. Then we returned to the hotel room and put on The Notebook whilst I did some data entry :)
Friday I didn't go into the office but did some data entry from the hotel and then just lounged about a bit really! Friday night was nice, we met up with a guy from Premier who does lots of work for an orphanage there. He had some amazing stories about the kids and I was gutted I couldn't go visit them as I was leaving the next morning! Think we'll be able to help them through DreamAid though as they make really lovely arts & crafts that they could sell on DreamAid. Friday night after the meal we were meant to go meet the other guys from Premier but were both feeling exhausted and had to finish packing for the flight in the morning!
Saturday we got up relatively early to finish packing for the flight, we were cutting it a bit fine but managed to get there okay and our flight to Hong Kong was relatively uneventful. Dad had asked for me to be upgraded with him to Business Class but the lady forgot and only remembered half an hour before we landed! But I was business class from Hong Kong to Jakarta anyway as the flight was over booked. Which was a fluke!
So far the stay at Jakarta has been pretty uneventful, on sunday we went to a arts and crafts market though which was very interesting. It's soooo hot here though! The dry season as well so nice for it not to rain as often and it's not as humid as Vietnam was. Also not as many mopeds which make the roads feel safer! Met a guy last night who works in the International Development part of the British Embassey, he thinks he can get Dad in touch with some pretty impressive people to help with DreamAid and maybe get me an internship as I'm doing International Development at uni hopefully! So that would be very impressive.
Just waiting on Dad now to go for lunch but I have no idea what he's doing as we usually have lunch at 12 and it's 12.48 now! Ah well.
I'll try and update this more regularly in the future aha! Go to Cairns on Saturday.
Lots of love,
Eve xxxx <3
