Australian Female Takes on the World
Well i was so excited about finally leaving the polluted and loud Bangkok, where it has been perfect weather. So hence understand the disappointment that upon arriving at the beach, theres not a spot of blue sky to be seen!
"oh wells" i thought to myself, im here to get wet anyways, i just have less chance of getting any colour!
It's funny, when you're in the shared taxi or bus with others getting dropped off at your accommodation, everyone judges and cringes at each place. eg when pulling up outside anywhere you give a quick survey of the place and all exchange eye contact, usually hoping its not for you, then giving a sheepish look of encouragement at the poor person getting off, hoping that your own is better. (it usually isnt, as ive quickly learnt)
once i arrived at my own digs, one quick glance around the place promptly alerted me to the fact that it certainly WASNT like the brochure supplied by the travel agency. the room was average, not really somewhere i wanted to have to occupy myself while its pouring outside though.
after taking a walk up and down the beach, looking for means of entertainment and interaction with other travellers, i begin to think that perhaps im in the wrong area. AGAIN. my annoyance quickly grows, as heaps of little things begin to add up to one heap of annoyance. the rain. the crappy accom. the lack of restaurant/bar facilities at accom or in any reasonable walking distance. the s***ty beach ((ok u know why u always get beautiful water shots? well its coz the beach itself is s***e.) its not nice fine white sand like home, its uncomfortable rough pebbles, and littered with rubbish.)) the constant harassment by locals offering services (NO I DONT WANT MY NAILS DONE OKAY)
next door however, was a lovely looking resort, that seemed to supply all the things i desired. so i checked in.
ah the bliss of resort life.
was koh samui affected by the tsunami? i know i should questioned this.... it certainly looks like it tho, as theres a lot of rubbish along the shore (or are they just dirty??) and my original accom had the main area being "redone." under construction. according to my brochure, there was once something there, that is no longer. hence i wonder about the tsunami.....
hopefully koh phangnan will be better.
thats a site supplied pic. of krabi.
