Ed's Tour
Hello again from Melbourne!
We've now been here for just over 3 weeks, and have been having a great time- apart from when watching England lose all the time in the Ashes! Our hostel has been really good- by far the best hostel that we've stayed in and met loads of really cool people. For the first few weeks we shared a room with two English girls called Kate and Suzie who were really nice and made the room like a little family house! Quite worryingly we also got to know some Aussie Neighbours fans, Jon, Sal and Becs, who possibly love the show more than me... anyone who takes a Neighbours board game around the street is dedicated I've also got to know two guys from north Wales called Jake and James and been visiting places and going out with them a lot recently. We should be bumping into all the people we've met further along in our travels which should be good.
So what have I done since I last wrote... well Chris and I 'stumbled' across another Neighbours night, so we had the privilage to meet Steph Scully, Stu Parker and the legend that is Toadie! We went as a big group from the hostel so it was a really good fun night. Unfortuantly we didn't have Dr Karl's band again but you cant have everything. The night did see me bump in to a girl from back home, Sarah, who I used to work with in Bromley- so that was very random but good to see her again.
However, it pains me to say that the Neighbours stars have been eclipsed in the last few days as we got to meet not only Kevin Pietersen who signed a mini bat, but also the legend that is Shane Warne. We were only with them for a matter of seconds but I managed to get a 'Cheers mate and Happy Christmas' from Shane along with his signed book. Something to tell the grandchildren at least!
On the sporting theme, I took a tour of the impressive MCG, which is by far the biggest cricket ground I've ever seen- made me really look forward to the boxing day test when i'll be with 100,000 others watching the 4th Ashes test. Chris, Jake and I also went to the Olympic Park Stadium to watch Melbourne Victory Vs New Zealand Knights in the soccer which was great fun, and amongst some very dodgy chanting Melbourne won 4-0 thanks to a captains performance from ex Wolves 'star' Kevin Muscat. It meant that Melbourne won the league so we then saw them on their lap of honour.
I've also managed to see a lot of Melbourne itself in the last few weeks- its a really lively city and always has something going on. Got to pay a visit to the largest casino in the southern hemisphere, which was amazing to just walk around and watch the people at the tables- I managed to leave with no losses to my name as well! I went along with Jake and James to the Carlton Brewery as well where they make Carlton, Fosters, Victoria Bitter and Stella amongst others. The never ending free samples went down a treat also.
And that just about brings you up to date. Just getting ready for Christmas now and its been very hot over here- there are bush fires nearby pushing the temperature into the high 30's and making everywhere a little a little smokey!
Have a great Christmas and New Year everyone
