Saturday in DC, there's a or of tourists every day and LOTS at the weekend. Yes we're tourists, just sayin' it was busy.
We started out at the Natural history museum, some people waiting in line had their luggage.
A quick trip around the museum, very impressed by the collection of asteroids and gems. We went over to the Postal Museum, a very grand building that was the head post office but could be a presidential palace. It was interesting and quieter than Natural History. We took the "Circulator" bus around to the Martin Luther King memorial. A fantastic statue cut out from a large block of stone. It looks unfinished, which I take as a sign that his work and vision is not complete. We walked over to the Lincoln Memorial and on to the Vietnam memorial, which is always very moving. The simple black slabs of stone with names of those that died carved into the otherwise mirrorlike surface.
We headed home for a swim and had some Mexican food and then went back into the city. We walked past the White House, Washington, WWII and Lincoln Memorials. A full moon rose over the reflecting pool, unfortunately the photos were not half the view that night.
The monuments and city are great at night.
