Had breakfast at the hostel again this morning then went out to the National archeaolgical museum, blagged our way in free, well I was free anyway as still 18 but Ed was supposed to pay but the guy got so fed up with him standing in the line umming and arrring that he let him in free, amazing what a bit of acting can do! The museum was huge, obviously a lot of ancient greek artifacts but also some egyption and prehistoric, we both found it quite hard to comprehend that many of the artifacts were 2000 years old and some 5000 years old, how does a piece of pottery survive that long in tact!
After that we went back to pireus port and booked some ferries to and from the islands. we are leaving tomorrow, very early - up at 5am, to syros, staying two nights and then going to poros for three nights, have found some lovely appartments in small costal villages, great for exploring and only a couple of hundred metres from the beach ready for some serious swimming and sun, bring on the bikini!!! pireus was much nicer on a saturday, not so busy but still not somewhere you'd want to spend much time.
we went back to the hostel after the port to book said accommodation, picking up and ice cream on route! and then went to the bakers down the road (the best we've found all holiday so far) and then to anoher part of town to find some food for a picnic, we took this to the national gardens, which are quite wild with lots of trees, and sat under the trees on the grass eating bread feta and stuffed vine leaves and for afters big fat cherries from a fruit stand of which i managed to consume approx 1/2 kilo :S
Now watching the footy (grecce are playing - though currentlly loosing) with a couple of canadian girls who are in our dorm. All of us are covered in mosquito bites, have to leave the window open in the room as no air con, well we were told there wasnt but when we booked an extra night we were charged more than before by the person on reception for the extra night in the same room because apparently it has air con so will have to investigate! we and the canadians had a mosquito slaughtering before we left the room and closed the window so hopefully we will be mosquito free when we get back, bloody things!
love to all
