Had a great day today in Athens! got up and had breakfast at the hostel, I had some lovely proper greek yoghurt and honey etc, was beautifuly hot, sun cream was deffinatly out! set off on metro for a couple of stops into old town and then walked to the acropolis, we went through a lovely part of town on the base of the acropolis hill that is post WWII, tradtitional houses, white painted, shutters etc and little allys with stone steps! got up to the acropolis and spent quite a long time up there, the views were amazing, across the whole city to the sea beyond. After that we went back down into the town and went to many other sites, all of which we got into totally free because we're born in 1989 and from the EU!
we then caught a metro to the port (pireus) and because that was crazily busy a we caught a tram to a beach about 10 minutes out of the port to check it out. It was ok but quite dirty and the snorkling would be rubbish as its quite flat so we sat in the sun for a while and then caught a tram back into town and went back to the hostel to freshen up then went back into Athens old town and found somewhere to eat (i wanted my seafood!!!) we both had octopus, cuttlefish and prawn stew, bread and wine, it was delic, and the setting was lovely, the people sitting next to us turned out to be A. from our hostel and B. from worthing, small world or what!
was hoping to go on a train to Delphi tomorrow and to olympia the day after but they turn out to be very hard to get to which is very annoying so looks like we will just be going around athens again tomorrow (but thats ok as there is plenty more to see) and will probablly go to more than the planned one island as neither of us want to stay in the same place for the rest of the holiday.
Love to all
