Last stop in Central America! The humidity continues and is fairly tropical here with heavy downfalls every afternoon.
I´m still travelling with the Aussie guy I met in Honduras (Brad) but we´re both flying off to different places tomorrow. I escape the heat by heading to the high altitude of Quito (Ecuador) and Brad is going to Peru.
No trip to Panama is complete without nipping to see the Canal - Is quite impressive. Got to see a couple of big cargo ships (slowly) going through one of the locks that raises and then lowers them - they then travel through an artificial lake in the centre of the country.
Just looked around the old town today. Got to see the slightly sureal sight of the coffin of an Ex-President being carried on a fire-engine through the streets with people clapping and chanting behind it. He was buried in the national Catherdral.
One of the local tourist policemen also egged us on to ask to go through the corden and go up to the presidencial palace. Was slightly strange being the only tourists allowed up the the ´White House´whilst about 30 police/army with lots of guns continued to guard the perimeter.
South America part of the trip starts tomorrow...looking forward to it.
