Gonna try to compress slightly so as not to bore you all with details! ( althoug if i'm completely honest its hard to remember where we've been the last week!)
So... when we finshed with the dolphins we drove upto Brisbane - it was a fair way and we didn't arrive till after dark so we found a campsite on the outskirts of town and crashed for the night. We stayed in Brisbane until friday. We spent two days exploring the city - we went to the Queensland museum and saw lots of things you don't see in the museums back at home which was really interesting - there was a huge section on spiders, lizards and bugs! Really creeps you out! especially when you're looking in a cabinet of massive bugs that must have died out thousands of years ago coz they look way too scary to be alive now, then you drive home and find you've got bits of these bugs splattered across you're car, and it takes a whole tank of windscreen wash to get the bloody thing off! There was also a small section on Aboriganies but not much - we're finding it quite hard to get a any info on them - but that said - if you were Australia and your ancestors had murdered and hunted these poor people for sport, would you really advertise the fact? I don't think so folks!! ( thats for you lala!!)
We went on a walk taking in all the historic sights, went up the City hall clock tower, we walked around the botanical gardens ( Brisbane is known as the City of flowers, but nothing was really blooming due to the drought - in fact the land was scorched!) We also went for a boat ride up the river. Brisbane has got a lovely feel to it and quite a buzz at night.
On Friday we met up with some of Ed's family: Uncle James and Auntie Kay, Cousin Jo, Her Partner Joti and their 2yr old, Isac. We then headed up the coast to Noosa Heads- it wasn't too far so Ed suggested we took the coastal/scenic route which was fine until we got a bit lost at which point he promptly fell asleep and left me to deal with it!! Aghh bless! I got us out eventually and we got to Noosa Heads with enough time to sit on the beach before the sun went down!
Saturday we decided to go for a little walk through Nossa Heads nation park - it ended up being an 8k walk and took the best part of the morning but it was a really lovely place! We'd only been going for 5 minutes or so when Ed spotted some real, live wild Koalas sleeping in the trees!! They are such cute creatures - it really made Rachels day - something else to tick off the list - and now we can stop wandering round the east coast in search of wild koalas!! We also saw lots of little lizards and some massive Monitors just wandering around! Very sereal!! The park lands was like a rain forest in places with vines hanging down the thickness of your arm! Ed wanted to re-enact moments from Tarzan but he failed the AAAeAAAAeAAAAggghhhh part of the audition!! When we got back to the camper we also saw a spider the size of you're palm with tiger like stripes over is legs!! Yuck!! Very glad we didn't see it in the forest!!
We spent the afternoon on the beach then drove 3 hours to Bundaburg where we stopped for the night - we've got some ground to make otherwise we'll never make Caines in time so i think well have some heavy driving days ahead of us now but we've just hit the bottom of the great barrier reef so we're looking forward to exploring that!
