We got evacuated from our hotel today! The fire alarm went off and we were herded onto the footpath and told to wait for the fire department. I was torn between concern for the welfare of my passport and booking papers, and dismay that my glass of Piper was going flat in the bar. Thankfully, both were ok.
On a more serious note, whoever you are, don't die before visiting the Victoria and Albert Museum. It's like someone took everything magnificent and beautiful made by the human race and built really stylish walls around it.
And even better, but weirdly, they are completely ok with you taking photographs of everything! We think we are so laid back in Australia, but between the incredibly casual customs at Heathrow, (there is a room where you go if you have anything to declare, but there is no one there), and museums where the only thing you can't photograph is the jewellery, (crowns seem to be ok though), the English make us look positively uptight.....who knew?
