Trouble in paradise
Bula from Fiji. We left sunny Auckland on the 9th bound for beutiful Fiji. All was going well as we were upgraded on the flight to premier ecomony and everything was on time. However the pilot didnt hold back when he told us that it may be a little showery when we ariived in Fiji. To put it bluntly Fiji at present is in the middle of a cyclone. Our destination in Fiji was a resort called Mango Bay (if you want to Google it you will see the sheer paridise we were on our way to) however the road to Mango Bay is flooded along with all the other roads out of Nadi. So we were put up in a hotel at the airport with the view that today all the roads would be clear and we would be on our way to paradise once agian. But no today we spent racing around in a minivan with a tour operator frantically picking up people from the resorts to beat the tide. When we got to the bridge the police had closed it. To give you a mental visual the water was higher than the brigde. In the hope we could make it at the next low tide we spent the afternoon at a local hotel with the other 6 travellers waiting to be picked up to do it all again. However the tale does not end there. During our 5 hour wait it rained, and rained, and rained. So much so the hotel we were waiting in flooded and Scotty even helped sweep water out of the dining room. The tour opertator came back with bad news that the bridge was still closed and we would have to find hotels for the night. While we had been at this hotel more flights had been arriving and all the rooms inthe local hotels had gone. So we drove around inthe minivan like something out of the bible being told there was no room in many of the inns. However we got a room in a hostel which was the last in the area so we are safe and well (not dry). We plan on bringing Fiji to a premature end tomorrow and try to get an earlier flight back to Auckland. For the parents dont worry we are fine it has actually been quite exciting.
So still no suntan for us. Fingers crossed for Sydney.
Take care.
