We had an "American" breakfast before heading back to St. Peter's for attempt number three. The line was long, doubling back on itself as it snaked through the piazza. After close to an hour, we made our way inside the basilica.
This church is big, really really big. This church is ornate, really really ornate. This church is impressive, really really impressive. One cannot but marvel at the beauty, scale, and importance of this huge edifice -- the seat of Rome, ground zero of the Roman Catholic Church. We wondered about for a couple of hours taking it all in including descending into the Papal Crypts. The entire experience (and I say experience rather than visit as this truly is an experience) was awesome
Leaving the basilica, we grabbed one more lunch at Il Sorpasso -- good as always, and then cut our way across town for gelato at Giolitti. A few more stops to wrap up our final shopping and we were home. It poured rain shortly after we got in.
We have been very blessed in missing the rains on our trip. Malinda and Michelle went out later and rustled up bread, cheese, salami and olives for a late snacking dinner at home.
