Hello. Just returned to Norwich from an amazing 5 days in France at Jonny and Patricia's wedding. Seven of us went over together and a total of 70 Brits made the journey, we also met up with some of our German friends from the table tennis exchange and people we hadn't seen for about 15 years so it was a fab time. We stayed in the town of Figeac which is a couple of hours from Toulouse and Limoges - they do the best chocolate mousse ever in a brasserie overlooking the river. Ali and I had to be restrained from going back on a daily basis! We can most certainly recommend Figeac and it's very bustly on Saturday when the market sets up. We also made a trip to Rodez as the weather was fairly rubbish and that seemed very nice too.
The wedding was on the Saturday and started off at about 2.30 with over 100 people following Jonny and Patricia through the streets of Capdenac-Gare to witness the civil ceremony. This was followed by a drive through the countryside to the church in Villefranche with white ribbons and horns blaring. The service was informal and humorous with the Brits being targeted to sing a well-practised French chant on their own - we certainly didn't let ourselves down. The reception was at a rustic countryside hotel / function room-cum-renovated barn and started off outside in glorious sunshine with punch and canapes, and developed into a 5-hour, 8-course meal of duck, foie gras, fish and profiteroles. Dancing followed into the wee hours with a mix of REM, Madness and French ballroom dancing. We were an eclectic mix of happiness!! We crawled into bed around half 4. The next day we returned to the wedding venue for a traditional French day-after party, where Patricia's stepfather took over the kitchen and russled up a buffet. It was a lovely afternoon sitting in the sunshine watching boules and eating ice cream.
Now back in Norwich and the stark realisation that we only have 9 days to go... eek. East Anglian derby tomorrow.
More before we go.
