We have arrived in Europe!Thank you for joining in on our trip. If you would rather not receive email updates of our posts, please let me know.
Our first positive experience was getting to see Georgia McLeland and her family at the airport as they were leaving for Georgia! After lots of goodbye hugs, our flights on American went very smoothly, leaving Austin at 8:50am on Friday, July 4th and arriving in Zurich at 7:33am on Saturday, July 5 (although it felt like midnight:33 to our bodies). We took the train, without event, to our hotel—Best Western Glockenhof. Great location and they had our room ready by 9:15am!We checked in about 8:30am and walked around the corner to have breakfast at one of our favorite Swiss bakeries (and confiserie (candy!))—Sprüngli. Fabulous! We picked up a few chocolates for friends (Ann!) and headed back to the hotel for a nap.
We slept until just after 1pm and headed out to explore more of Zurich.Started with a river cruise on the Limmet River to Lake Zurich. After the lovely cruise (just about 20 minutes) we walked around the lake. It is a beautiful day and everyone is out enjoying the weather. Next was some shopping on Bahnhofstrasse (the toy store and Swatch), then a couple of churches. Fraumunster has stained class windows by Chagall and Grossmunster is just across the river. Both lovely.
We were fading, so walked back to an Italian restaurant we had found earlier on a picturesque street. We went back by Spüngli for dessert, but it was already closed (even though it was only just after 6pm). Back at the hotel for showers and early to bed.
It has been a wonderful day. Enjoy more pictures by clicking on the Photos tab.
