December 2009 - Sydney
Well still here & yes still loving it.. Currently working at St Vincents Hospital again in the Haematology Dept. Really enjoying it. Getting excited seeing all the Christmas decorations going up now. End of November I went to Darling Harbour to see the lighting of the Christmas Tree. It was nice but certainly not a proper one. Then they had some carol singing & a great firework show from the harbour. Fab!!!
Me & my pal Lianne moved into our flat in Woolloomooloo. Apparently Russell Crowe lives there but certainly not in our part I wouldnt say. So good to have my own space & chill out watching tv after work. Even better - Friday nights in watching Taggart!! Can't beat watching a bit of Taggart in Australia.
Saturday 12th December I went to the Acer Arena in Homebush, Olympic Park to see Greenday!! Cheap ticket bought off gumtree & away I went. Supported by Jet, it was awesome. So much better than I remember them being at TITP!
Following week we were out to celebrate Lianne & Vera's birthdays then Christmas Eve was our Ozintro Harbour Cruise.
Christmas Day was a wet one so me & Lianne decided to have some friends to our flat for Christmas dinner. (Orphans Christmas Dinner as the backpackers call it). Christmas morning, slightly hungover me & Lianne started on peeling the 'tatties' and chopping the veg when Vera asked where the turkey was & how long it would take to cook...............Oooopppsss!! Unfortunately we forgot to take the turkey out the freezer so instead of dinner at 4pm, we ate at 9pm after de-frosting the turkey roll in the sink (the Canadians idea not mine). Still it was a good day spent with new friends.
Boxing Day was International Passport Day at Randwick Races. Having never been to the races before or betted I was looking forward to it. Me & Vera got dressed up then headed up to the Races. I betted on the names I thought would be lucky such as 'Dandee', 'Sunday Ladies - reminded me of the Blackwatch', and some others but won nowt. Although Vera did win a couple of times. All in all it was a good day but bloody cold & wet.
Next up was New Years!!! My first Hogmany in Sydney and it was gonna be good. My friend from home Siobhan & her sister Sian arrived from India a couple of days before so we all decided to spend it together. Sydney was mega packed as expected so plans changed & we ended up heading down to The Rocks and sat right underneath the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Got there just in time for the 9pm fireworks with our box of goon. Then before we knew it it was midnight & then started the 'best fireworks in the world'. Yes they were so so good but maybe because we were sitting so close they didnt have the same affect but what a sight. Loved every minute of it. Certainly beats Dundees New Year Celebrations thats for sure........
Here's to what 2010 will bring..
P.S. Happy New Year to you all..
