Vegas - a playground for adults. You can smell the hype and excitement as you drive in watching the lights come on. We stayed down the end of the strip in a place called Mandalay Bay. The place was massive and did not disappoint. I handed my mustang over to valet parking and our luggage was taken to our room while we checked in. Without going into pages of detail, the resort was unbelievable. All of them are. Everything is over the top with detail.
We had a late dinner at the restaurant in our casino where we met up with Karl who joined us for the weekend. At the stroke of midnight the gang arranged for a piece of happy birthday cake and a big singsong and it was nice and embarrassing. After that it was time to hit the casino floor and throw our money away. On the upside, I put $20 into the slots and won $150 on the first spin.
Late to bed and up early the next day we organised to follow our Vegas rules of the three G's. Girls, Guns and Gambling. Guns was next up on the list and we booked with a company called Battlefield Vegas that picked us up from our hotel in an ex army Humvee. Piled in the open top we drove along the strip to the shooting range. Everyone who works there is all ex military and really want you to have a good time. The guns for use come in packages and you can literally try anything. My gun package was similar to what Navy SEALs use. It started off with a handgun then an MP-5 all they way up to a belt fed machine gun on a bi-pod. It was so much fun to do something that you couldn't do back home.
After that our driver took us back out in the Humvee to the 'Welcome to Vegas' sign took a photo for us, we didn't ask for it and it made the day even better.
Once we were dropped off back at our hotel, it was time for some down time in our hotel pool (read: wave pool).
That night we wanted to go somewhere nice for my birthday but because there was a big boxing event on, everything was booked out. Eventually the concierge found a place for us and we booked in got dressed up and made our way there.
Dinner was out on a balcony on the 64th floor of the hotel next to us. We had a table that looked out over the whole strip and we watched the sun go down and the strip light up. The concierge must have told them it was my birthday too and they kept bringing us complimentary food and drink. Every dish was amazing and the perfect way to kick off the night. Dinner was followed by the Penn and Teller show at the Rio hotel. It basically was them doing a magic show with comedy thrown in.
We didn't really have a plan for the rest of the night and were hoping to go with the flow and that just fell on its face. We had a discounted entry to our rooftop bar so we went up there to check it out. Once again it had a balcony and a view of the strip and it was also unbelievable. So we got all jolly drunk there and ticked off the last G - Girls. Crazyhorse III is apparently the strip club to be at as is has celebs who also frequent the establishment. So we went in there and stayed until about 4am when Anita and I went to bed. We woke up at 9am to the sound of Sav and Karl coming back to the room from the night out! Vegas bring out the party boy in everyone.
Sunday was recovery day where we soaked up the relaxing life of the resort. On the final night we did a bit of a casino crawl where we went to the famous ones and grabbed a gambling chip from each, watched the Bellagio fountain show and even had time to get stuck in a monorail for 30mins until we were rescued out. During the travels we were given free VIP tickets to Tiesto's show at the MGM grand that night. Problem was, 2000 other people were also given the same tickets. So the GA line and VIP line stretched half the casino. We stayed around for a little while to check it out then decided it wasn't worth the wait and went back to our hotel.
When we got back we found out that Sebastian Ingrosso (another DJ) was playing his set at our pool and we were given free entry. It was crazy to see how relaxed the crowd were there. You could walk right up to the stage whereas when they play in Aust, you are crammed in at a festival. The girls went to bed around 2am and Sav and I stayed out and gambled a bit more until 5am. We woke back up at 10am, checked out and picked up our SUV for our night in Yosemite National Park.
So that was my Vegas adventure. It is very hard to put it all in words, so much happened that it would take so long to read it all but I think the pictures will explain the atmosphere better. Then when I get back, you can ask me about the stories I can't tell here.
