The Castaways
So we arrived back in Bangkok after an 11 and a half hour bus journey from Nong Khai. Well, crossing the Friendship Bridge back into Thailand was a doddle but we were in for some drama in Nong Khai. When we got there we planned on leaving straight away and heading to Bangkok, we just needed to change our Laos kip into Thai Baht again! Well we didnt realise that this was impossible, it can only be done in Laos because their currency is virtually worthless so no-one changes it. We walked around several banks and they were literally laughing in our faces and we were beginning to loose our temper as we only had a certain amount of money that we could withdraw without finding an internet cafe! Luckily, we returned to the bank to make more sense of the situation and there was a man from Laos who crosses into Thailand a lot and moves between the two countries so he was happy to change our kip into Baht. That was very lucky and we quickly jumped on the next bus heading for Bangkok. So we arrived in Bangkok at 1am and was literally mowed down by taxi drivers wanting our custom (very annoying but typical of Bangkok) so we jumped in the nearest one and headed back to the Khon San Road. After walking around finding a guesthouse we managed to get to sleep at like 3am and was ready to sight see the next day. While in Bangkok we went to the Grand Palace, which was huge and the gold is literally blinding. We also visited the nearby Wat Po where there is a massive reclining Buddha. After a bit of shopping in the markets we decided to leave and head for a bit more culture. So west we are heading.
