Well, we have definitely had an eventful few weeks since we have last written.
The owner of the house named Paul seemed to us to be a nice man at the start, although Cess smelt a rat. He seemed cold when we moved in, but we thought nothing of it! He had this Thai girlfriend that could barely speak 10 words of English let alone string a sentence together, anyway, we thought it was cute at the start albeit quite bizarre. We found it a bit difficult to establish the place as our home because Paul had all his stuff in the living room! it was so much stuff! and the fridge and all the cupboards were full, so we could not really use the facilities well. After two days we decided that we could only stay for 4 months rather than 3. When we told this to Paul, he reacted like such a baby, he was stomping around moaning and stuttering that he would have to think about it and he felt let down by us and the only reason why he took us over someone else he interviewed was because we said we were going to stay for 4 months. From this moment on we could envisage many problems at the expense of the guy, especially as we had given him over a thousand quid in a deposit and rent without signing anything. We felt as if we did not want to be there. Fortunately, Paul injured his knee playing badminton, so he was in hospital for four days. Those days were really good because we had lots of time to ourself, despite the occasional presence of his Thai girlfriend. In those four days Paul called Dubs from hospital (hmmm, how does he use his mobile in hospital? was he really there?) saying that we could stay for 3 months if we payed him a bit extra. Reluctantly we accepted realising the inconvenience of moving after being there for only a few days and the fact that he said he would give us our bond back.
All was well on the weekend, we felt more upbeat and glad that we were there and the earlier sentiments of not wanting to be there had vanished. Suddenly out of nowhere Paul came to our room and told Cess that he did not like us and wanted us to leave ASAP. He said that we were anti-social and only wanted to shut ourselves in our room! (exactly what he did!). He told Cess that an Estonian couple were going to come round to look at the place with the view to moving in! As soon as he said that the Estonians buzzed on the door, he occupied them for about an hour while we sat there completely brewing. After they had gone we ripped into him so hard and the stupid man could not even look us in the face! He said that he would give us back 3/4 of the months rent as we stayed there for a week plus the bond! The figure was $2035, about 900 quid. He wanted us to leave straight away, however, we told him to f*** off because we needed to find somewhere first! However, we were so sick of the place that we decided that we would leave and go and stay with Alaistair.
On Monday, when we started our first day at work, we were calling Paul to finalise the arrangements. The idiot then told us he was only gonna give us 2 grand because we used the phone lots (even though it said that the phone bills were included!) That is what we hated about the man so much! he kept on changing his mind about everything! We were suspicious he was going to cheat us out of even more money, so we brought along Alexandra and The Del Rio's mother Esther (because she owns lots of Real Estate in the City, therefore knows our rights). Paul's lame brother came to give us our money back because apparently Paul had to go to hospital again. He came along with a confident attitude as if he could skank us with the amount he was going to give us. He immediately put up a front as a lawyer along pretending he was a lawyer, he had a lousy suit and a pathetic briefcase with two blank receipts that looked as if an illiterate 3 year old had created. He tried to take our keys before he gave us the money, but we were having none of it, so under pressure with a lot of reluctance he gave us the money first, then expected us to provide photocopies of our passports, to which we ridiculed him! Some lawyer he was, he was so pathetic he could not argue back at all! He tried to smooth the situation over saying he was sorry the way it turned out, which was pathetic in itself because it wasn't even his place to say sorry. We were soon out of the flat and really happy to go to to Alexandra's. We had a well deserved slap up Chinese meal! That evening we went back to Alaistairs place, which made us happy too as that was the first place we stayed in Australia and it brought back good memories. Two days later, Andres del Rio managed to secure us a 2 bedroom flat which belonged to a Canadian couple that were studying medicine. They were going back to Canada until the 6th February, which is perfect for how long we want to stay in Melbourne. The flat is really modern, and has a barbecue as well as 3 terraces. We are nicely settled in now and it feels like home.
In conclusion, we were well glad that we got out of the flat in Fitzroy and are now living in Carlton, because it did not feel like home at all and Paul was one of the most pathetic and childish losers we had ever met! We still feel sorry for his b**** of a mail order bride and realise that she is the way she is because she is in a bit of a harsh predicament...(be a w**** in Thailand or live with a dickhead in Australia ). We were also so sick of seeing his feeble presence in the living room and his inability to deal with situations like a man. In conclusion he was 45 going on 12 and we would not wish our worst enemies to meet a man like him. Also, if it was not for that experience we would not have found the lovely flat we are in now because the Del Rio's would not have needed to work hard to make sure we found somewhere nice to live.
