Well, an early start out of Kaikoura (including beer for breakfast so as not to carry too many), and a bit of a drive on the old green bus back to Picton to get the lunchtime ferry back up to the north island again. This time the sea was much calmer, so with friends in tow, headed to the bar for a number of jars of beer, arriving several hours later and slightly worse for wear in Wellington. This time, it wasn't raining, yea-ha!!
Being Halloween, we spent a good 15 minutes attempting to find appropriate attire for that nights party under the hostel, but that was a non-starter and instead gotpie and chips, had a shower and headed to the bar for free pool to start the festivities. My new buddy Welsh Pete decided it would be fun to strawpedo a few bottles, and somehow we managed 6 each in about 20 minutes. I was sick at that point, but pushed on through and after a number of random drinks and a couple of bars think I sparked out in the early(ish) hours. Well, before 7am anyway...
Next day was a quiet one. Lost another pub quiz. Didn't really care.
Finally got back into action the following day with a walk up to the top of Mount Victoria to see good old views of the city and pose for piccies on a cannon. Mexican for mid-afternoon lunch, a few drinkies.. At this point, forgot to mention that while at the races in Kaikoura, Pete went on an undie run with some smashed Kiwi fellas, basically, 100 meters round the race track in their scants, being abused by half the croud and fed beer by the the others... And now, while sitting in the bar having a quiet few beers, you would never guess who we saw on "Harness Racing Inrenational" on sky sports 2.... And then halloween caught up again and dozed off well before 9....
Lst full day in Welly, up early and pottered... Which is great. I like pottering and not working. Then me old mukka Jason (canada remember) got in contact with the couple we met in Rarotonga, who swung by 15 minutes later to show us the town! Drove round the bay, saw the boat used in King Kong, stopped for tea somewhere, then back to theirs. I say theirs, but its actually the Governor General's house (chappy that runs New Zealand), as Suzie (female of the couple) is the grounds manager there. Which meant we got a private viewing of the house, seeing amongst other things a 60,000 dollar diamond encrusted cigar box, and some cut up bits of coloured card (kind of nersury stylie) which apparently costs 300,000!! Highlight though, and its a good-un, got to sit in good old her majesty's throne when she's doing her bits to rule over here... Finally I'm nearly royalty!!! Should've worn clean undercrackers me thinks... Then back into town, where I decided to sort out a dicky belly with immodium.... Peace at last... Early night, off to Taupo again the following day....
