WOW well what a trip New Zealand has been so far, this really is the m,ost amazing country I have ever been to. On arriving in Auckland with a couple of friends I met in Australia called Abby and Dave, we have hired a campervan called Lucy (we named her) and have spent the last ten days making our way south to Queenstown.
The first night we spent on the side of Mt Teranaki, whcih was amazing, its a big dormant volcano in the middle of no where like Mt Fugi. Then we drove across to Taupo, known as the Skydiving capital of the world where Dave and I jumped out of a plane at 15000 ft AHHHHH was crazy but sooo much fun plus it was Daves birthday so lots of sampling the local brew followed.
After that we left dave in Taupo (on purpose, that was where he was going) and Abby and I continued down to Wellington where we got the Ferry to the South Island. Arriving we imediately proceeded to the Marlborough wine region where we hired a couple of bikes to make our way around the 25 wineries within a 5km range, cycling became very difficult around mid afternoon... i think we managed 8 wineries in total! Disapointing I know but I am more than willing to have another go.
Then we went down to Kaikora where we saw seals, dolphons, sperm whales and humpback whales whcih was amazing, you don't realise how big they are until you see them in real life.
Then we made our way across to the Franz Joseph Glacier, 6 hours of the most spectacular roads I could ever have imagined running through sub tropical rainforest, over snow capped mountains and around giant tranquil lakes, not to mention monsoon style rainstorms, gravel roads, single lane bridges arching over massive canyons, truly amazing, yet lucy (the campervan) still did us proud. Now we have arrived in Franz Joseph and tomorrow we are climbing the glacier before heading on to Queenstown.
