I finally made it, here I am in Queenstown. Fare well to the open road, its been fun but for now I am staying still. 20,000Km and three and a half months later here I am, about as far away from home as I can get without going into space. I'm missing home like crazy, I've never been away so long but Queenstown is doing its best to sooth the lonely and lost feelings that get hard to cover up when your so far away from the ones you know and love so much.
So here I am in my new home for the next few months, and what a place to be, known as the adventure sport capital of the World, this place seems to have a constant atmosphere of fun and action that just makes you feel alive. From jet boating to Bungy jumps, paragliding to white water rafting, snowboarding to skydiving, the adrenline pumped social nature of this town is something else.
I have found myself a job at one of the top five restaurants in NewZealand running the evening service in the restaurant and shaking classic cocktails into the night for the wealthy ski lovers of New Zealand leaving me free to hit the slopes during the day, all we need is some snow, PLEASE PLEASE CAN WE HAVE SOME SNOW!!!! Sleeping is going to be are hard activity to find time for.
Also I have found another two native Brits, Emma and Laura who I am currently house hunting with, although there are some incredible properties in this town we are still to get one we think is suitable so please cross your fingers for us.
So far though this town is amazing, most days I go running along the shore of lake Wakatipu, the biggest of the southern lakes, mountains towering out from the the mirror like still waters topped with snow brightly iluminated by the sun. Truly this is a breathtaking place to live, I stop and watch the paragliders taking off from the mountains above the town soaring off over the lake. It reminds me of Growing up in and around the lake district in the UK, only this is on a much bigger scale. The town bustles with designer ski shops, stylish bars and restaurants, pubs full of the apres skiers drinking around giant fire places. The people in this country seem to be so friendly, they seem to go to great lengths to help the most strangest of strangers. I can gladly say I think i will be very happy here for the next few months, I have allready met some amazing people and made many friends, may be I'll get a visitor or two from back home, any takers????
